About the Job: Junior Plumbing Engineer
We are actively seeking a Junior Plumbing Engineer to join our Building Engineering division. This position is available at our offices in Rochester, Albany, Buffalo, Elmira, Ithaca, Poughkeepsie, Syracuse, or White Plains.
The Building Engineering Division at LaBella provides comprehensive engineering services, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural engineering. Our services span from initial feasibility studies and analysis through project design and construction. Our engineers are experienced in a wide range of projects, including new construction, renovations, additions, specialized structures, and design/build projects for diverse clients.
The Junior Plumbing Engineer will be responsible for providing holistic plumbing and fire protection design services for buildings, collaborating directly with clients. Key responsibilities include:
- Plumbing design (restrooms, domestic water, sanitary systems).
- Fire sprinkler and fire alarm design.
- Egress and code analysis.
- Conducting studies and providing technical support to meet project requirements.
Typical projects will involve field work, design development, coordination with other disciplines, and construction administration services. Additional desired skill sets include compressed gas piping design and a strong understanding of fire codes. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong teamwork abilities, provide leadership to junior engineers and architects, and be capable of contributing to new business development. This role offers a significant opportunity for career growth, potentially transitioning into a leadership position within the office.
Job Duties
- Develop plumbing and fire protection concepts, strategies, construction documents, and engineering reports for new building and renovation projects.
- Specialize in the design of plumbing, fire protection systems, fire alarms, fire code review, and fire and smoke modeling.
- Conduct code and egress analysis for new buildings, building additions, and renovation projects, requiring strong building and fire code knowledge.
- Design smoke control systems utilizing Contam or similar design software.
- Provide design contributions on large, multi-discipline projects.
- Undertake plumbing, piping, and fire protection design for various market sectors including corrections, higher education, laboratories, and healthcare.
- Complete fire protection hydraulic calculations using industry-standard software programs.
- Perform piping design, potentially including compressed gas for industrial and medical clients.
- Engage directly with clients on technical matters, performing analysis of design options, conducting cost-benefit comparisons, and effectively communicating results to aid owner decision-making.
- Contribute to project financial performance and schedule management.
- Assist in proposal writing to generate new business opportunities.
- Maintain and strengthen client relationships.
Salary Range: $80,000 – $120,000
The specific salary offered may be influenced by various factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience with a professional A/E services firm is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Science is preferred.
- Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- New York Professional Engineer’s License is preferred.
