The Tone:

LaBella’s Building Engineering Division provides comprehensive engineering services, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural design, spanning from feasibility studies to project construction. This role is crucial for delivering holistic plumbing and fire protection design solutions for various building projects, contributing to functional and safe environments for a diverse client base.

• Mission: This person will deliver holistic plumbing and fire protection design solutions for buildings, contributing to project design and construction from studies through administration.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Develop plumbing and fire protection concepts, strategies, construction documents, and engineering reports for new building and renovation projects.
• Analysis: Conduct code and egress analysis, specializing in plumbing, fire protection system design, fire alarm, and fire/smoke modeling, requiring strong building and fire code knowledge.
• Technical Support: Provide studies and technical support, including fire protection hydraulic calculations and piping design (potentially compressed gas for industrial and medical clients), to meet project requirements.
• Client Interaction: Interact directly with clients by technically completing analyses of design options, cost-benefit comparisons, and communicating results to aid owner decision-making.
• Project Management: Actively participate in managing project financial performance and schedule, alongside fieldwork, design coordination, and construction administration services.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Science is preferred, along with core domain knowledge in plumbing and fire protection systems.
• Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience with a professional A/E services firm is preferred.
• Skills: Strong writing, organizational, and communications skills; ability to work under pressure and multi-task efficiently; and strong building and fire code knowledge.
• Bonus: New York Professional Engineer’s License is preferred. Desired skill sets include compressed gas piping design, ability to provide leadership to junior engineers and architects, and capability of developing new business.
