Junior Software Engineer | Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Software Development: Contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of software for desktop applications and cloud services.
• Documentation & Collaboration: Assist in creating and maintaining system documentation and collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement networking architectures.
• Performance Optimization: Support the optimization of messaging protocols and schemas to enhance data transmission efficiency, security, and reliability.
• DevSecOps Adoption: Assist in the adoption of DevSecOps practices, including automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and security integration.
• Cloud Systems Contribution: Learn and contribute to the development, integration, and testing of cloud-based systems, including secure data management and infrastructure design.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a closely related technical discipline. Early career professional. Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain US Government security clearance.
• Experience: At least one year of part- or full-time professional experience, with no more than 5 years of relevant experience. Experience with database concepts such as query optimization, data engineering and normalization, and stored procedures. Experience working with Docker and related technologies. Internship or academic experience in AI/ML with a strong mathematics background. Internship or academic experience developing desktop or web applications, and in unit testing or integration testing.
• Skills: Familiarity with programming languages such as Rust, TypeScript/JavaScript, Golang, or C# (academic or project experience is acceptable). Experience working in REACT/Vue or related front-end web technologies. Basic understanding of GIT and remote repositories such as GitHub, GitLab, or equivalent. Exposure to software development methodologies like Agile or Scrum. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, effective oral and written communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Bonus: Internship or academic project experience in software development, systems engineering, or cloud computing. Experience with networking fundamentals, including the OSI model (layer 3 to layer 7), TCP/IP, routing, and common protocols. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including compute, storage, and networking services. Knowledge of cloud networking architectures and security mechanisms, including IAM, encryption, and firewalls. Exposure to CI/CD methodologies and cloud-native tools for monitoring and logging. AWS cloud certification or experience with AWS GovCloud.
