Job Description
Behavioral Research Internship – Summer 2026
Location: Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, or Prospect Park Zoo
Department: Animal
Duration & Schedule: This internship runs for the summer season, approximately 12-14 weeks, from late May to mid-August. Interns are expected to work 16-24 hours per week.
Stipend: A total stipend ranging from $750 to $1300 will be provided, depending on the duration and schedule. This will be paid as one lump sum upon the successful completion of the position, less applicable taxes.

Internship Summary
This internship offers a comprehensive, deep dive into conducting animal behavior and observational studies within a dynamic zoo environment. Interns will receive guidance throughout the process, from designing and carrying out a study to analyzing results and effectively sharing their findings.
Learning Outcomes
- Interns will learn how to design and execute a behavior study within a zoo setting, encompassing various study designs and data collection methods.
- Interns will acquire knowledge of best practices for rigorous data collection to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Interns will be guided through all phases of study design and behavior methodology specifically tailored for zoo-housed animals.
- Interns will receive training and support in data analysis, culminating in the preparation of a final presentation or report summarizing their findings and providing future recommendations.
Qualification Requirements
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be a current student actively enrolled in a degree-granting program.
- Ability to operate effectively in a busy and fast-paced environment.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Must successfully pass a background screening if accepted (provided by WCS).
