Quality Engineering Intern | Amperesand

The Tone:
This is a Quality Engineering Internship at Amperesand, located in our Reno, NV facility. Amperesand is at the forefront of reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems by developing a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products. These products leverage advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research to provide faster deployment, smaller footprints, greater efficiency, and dynamic energy support compared to traditional electrical equipment. This role is critical in supporting the design and implementation of Amperesand’s Quality Management System, directly enabling the production of high-quality products and their successful commercialization. You will partner with design, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to develop and embed robust quality processes throughout the product lifecycle.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop Risk Assessments: Support the comprehensive development of Design FMEAs and Process FMEAs to proactively identify and mitigate critical risks across product design and manufacturing stages.
• Define Critical Requirements: Identify and document critical product and process requirements, ensuring focused attention on essential needs for suppliers and production operations.
• Establish Quality Processes: Develop detailed manufacturing processes and clear instructions designed to control and assure in-process quality throughout the production lifecycle.
• Validate Production Quality: Provide support for the quality validation of all production processes and conduct thorough quality checks for incoming parts from suppliers.
• Drive Continuous Improvement: Assist with root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and conduct characterization studies utilizing advanced quality techniques such as lean methodologies, hypothesis testing, and design of experiments to prevent defects.
• Ensure Compliance: Contribute to the development of processes and documentation necessary to meet the stringent requirements of the ISO9001 quality standard.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
• Experience: Demonstrated capability in bringing assignments to a successful conclusion and effectively managing multiple priorities within a collaborative team environment.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong computer proficiency, including practical knowledge of statistical software and database management.
• Bonus: Possession of an ASQ or Six Sigma certification; prior internship experience gained within a manufacturing setting is highly preferred.
