Data Analytics Intern | Steel Dynamics

The Tone:
This is an internship at Steel Dynamics, located in Terre Haute, IN. Steel Dynamics is a leading industrial metals solutions company specializing in the production of lower-carbon, high-quality steel products primarily from recycled scrap, operating on a circular manufacturing model. They produce a wide range of steel products for diverse industries and also manage metals recycling, steel fabrication, and aluminum production. This internship offers a unique opportunity for hands-on engagement with real operational data, allowing interns to directly contribute to building and maintaining critical reporting tools that inform business decisions across the organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop Reports: Build and maintain critical reporting tools using PowerBI, SSRS, and Powerbuilder to inform business decisions.
• Support Data Integrity: Assist in cleansing, transforming, and modeling data to ensure accuracy and consistency across multiple data sources.
• Standardize Processes: Document and formalize recurring analytics processes to improve reporting efficiency and sustainability.
• Create Dashboards: Design and develop interactive dashboards utilized by employees and leadership for data-driven insights.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field, maintaining a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
• Experience: Hands-on experience with programmatic transformation of large datasets and an understanding of data visualization principles.
• Skills: Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and effective communication skills.
• Bonus: Prior experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Qlik Sense, or Tableau, and familiarity with SQL and DAX for automating and connecting datasets.
