Entry Level Software Engineer (External Interfaces) | KBR

The Tone:
This is an entry-level position at KBR, located in Houston, TX, supporting the NASA Johnson Space Center. KBR provides critical simulation engineering expertise to NASA, ensuring astronauts are well-prepared for space missions. This role is vital for developing and maintaining the software that manages external interfaces with spacecraft models within training systems, directly contributing to mission readiness. Your work will involve improving the world responsibly and safely through cutting-edge space simulation technology.

The TL;DR

• Team: Simulation Engineering team at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC)
• Mission: Develop, maintain, and integrate software for External Interfaces with Spacecraft models into the Training Systems (TS) infrastructure, specifically supporting real-time Visiting Vehicles simulation software.
• Tech Stack: C++, Linux, UNIX, Python, Qt, Trick, Agile

What You’ll Actually Do
• Development: Develop, maintain, and integrate software for the External Interfaces with Spacecraft models into the Training Systems infrastructure.
• Support: Support real-time Visiting Vehicles simulation software within the Training Systems facility.
• Integration: Perform simple and complex software builds, and integrate software with other developers effectively.
• Collaboration: Work with users to determine requirements, system limitations, impacts, and flight-training readiness associated with the software systems.
• Problem Solving: Apply computer programming skills to solve technical problems.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career professional with a B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related degree. Must possess an understanding of the mathematics and physical science governing spacecraft systems and dynamics, including orbital mechanics, aerodynamics, coordinate system transformation, and Guidance Navigation & Control (GNC) devices.
• Experience: Required software development experience using C++ alongside UNIX or Linux skills, and general programming experience in developing software applications.
• Skills: Proficient in C++ software development, skilled in Linux or UNIX environments, capable of strong problem-solving, and possessing excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong initiative and teamwork ability.
• Bonus: Knowledge and experience in Python, Qt, Trick, and Agile software development methods are a plus.
