Junior Software Engineer | KBR

The Tone:
This is an early career position at KBR, located in an On-site/Hybrid setting. KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities. This role is crucial for defining the next generation of space communication systems for the US Space Force, directly impacting national security. The work ensures global secure, survivable, and protected communications for the nation’s warfighters.

• Team: Systems engineering team defining the next generation of space communication systems supporting US Space Force.
• Mission: Develop software prototypes and applications to support next-generation space communication systems for the US Space Force, enhancing national security.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop: Analyze and develop software prototypes and/or applications as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Lifecycle: Participate in the complete software development lifecycle, including user story creation, design, development, automated testing, and operational support.
• Interface: Create intuitive user interfaces that enable efficient data management and system oversight.
• Design: Design and develop new visualization features to meet evolving end-user requirements.
• Optimize: Work with complex algorithms to deliver optimized solutions for the end user.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems; other degrees will be considered with relevant work experience.
• Experience: 1-3 years of software development, including architecture, object-oriented design, coding, and testing, with a strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
• Skills: Strong experience in Python, Java, or Go; familiarity with web applications using microservices architecture; familiarity with database technologies such as PostgreSQL and MySQL; proficient in using GitLab for version control and CI/CD; excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Bonus: Familiarity with Javascript frameworks such as Angular or React; knowledge and experience in Jira and Confluence; experience in implementing Agile Software Development methodologies; experience with Docker, AWS and/or Azure, and Kubernetes.
