Technical Intern – VR Development | Noblis

The Tone:
This is an internship at Noblis, a company that tackles the nation’s toughest problems and delivers advanced solutions to critical federal missions. Noblis works across defense, intelligence, and federal civil sectors, applying scientific thought and engineering expertise for enduring impact. This role offers hands-on experience in Virtual Reality development within the Noblis Immersive Systems Laboratory, allowing a motivated coder to expand their skills by working with cutting-edge immersive technologies and expanding what’s possible in virtual and augmented reality systems.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: Hybrid; Reston, VA
• Pay: $23–$38 hourly
• Team: Virtual Reality Systems Development Team in the Noblis Immersive Systems Laboratory
• Mission: Expand the art of the possible in virtual and augmented reality systems using cutting-edge immersive technologies.
• Tech Stack: XR Interaction Toolkit, Oculus Integration, SteamVR, OpenXR, Git

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop: Implement VR features including interactions, physics, and user interfaces within immersive systems.
• Troubleshoot: Debug and resolve VR-specific issues across various development platforms.
• Optimize: Apply VR best practices to enhance performance and ensure user comfort in experiences.
• Integrate: Collaborate with designers and developers to incorporate VR assets and features into projects.
• Document: Create and maintain technical documentation for developed VR code.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Game Development, or a related field with a 3.3 GPA, and with at least one semester left in school. Must be a US Citizen.
• Experience: Familiarity with VR development concepts and platforms, coupled with an understanding of 3D mathematics, physics, and spatial computing.
• Skills: Strong problem-solving and debugging capabilities, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and a genuine interest in VR technology.
• Bonus: Experience with VR SDKs and standards such as XR Interaction Toolkit, Oculus Integration, SteamVR, or OpenXR; knowledge of version control systems like Git; and an understanding of performance optimization techniques specifically for VR.
