Firmware / Software Design Engineering Interns and Co-Ops | Advanced Energy

This is an internship and co-op opportunity at Advanced Energy, located in Fort Collins, CO. The TL;DR
• Role: Internship / Co-Op
• Location: In-person, Fort Collins, CO
• Pay: $26–$36 hourly

What You’ll Actually Do
• Firmware Development: Develop embedded firmware for use in Advanced Energy products.
• Algorithm Implementation: Design and implement control algorithms for various applications.
• Software Creation: Develop software for product interfaces used in test and user environments.
• Team Collaboration: Actively participate in a core team to achieve schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction goals.
• Prototype Assistance: Assist in the development, testing, and debugging of prototype power supply units.
• Data Analysis: Analyze test data and reports against functional and performance specifications.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must be pursuing an MS or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, with a GPA above 3.25. Preference is given to those with an Embedded Systems and/or Controls focus.
• Experience: Requires working knowledge of microcontrollers, field-programmable gate arrays, hardware circuit theory, or software development tools. Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms, computer-based design and analysis tools, and MS Office Suite is essential. Ability to work in a lab environment for debugging firmware, software, or embedded systems and evaluating product compliance.
• Skills: Strong programming ability in high-level languages such as Python, HDL, C, C++, or assembly languages in an embedded environment. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, defining priorities and meeting schedule requirements without direct supervision.
• Bonus: Ability to work with embedded systems and hardware, including reading schematics. Familiarity with communication protocols like Ethercat, Fieldbus, SPI, and I2C. Knowledgeable or experienced in emerging technologies such as Cybersecurity and Machine Learning.
