Mechanical Intern | Commercial Mechanical Contractor

The Tone:
This is an internship at a commercial mechanical contractor, focused on supporting active construction projects. The company specializes in commercial HVAC and plumbing systems within construction. This role provides practical, real-world experience in project engineering, mechanical design, and shop fabrication, helping coordinate efforts across the field, office, and fabrication shop.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Support: Assist Project Engineers with daily tasks such as reviewing mechanical drawings, tracking RFIs and submittals, and updating project logs and schedules.
• Design Assistance: Support design staff by assisting with drafting and modeling tasks and laying out mechanical systems using relevant software.
• Fabrication Learning: Rotate through the fabrication shop to observe and assist with sheet metal and piping fabrication processes while learning quality control and safety practices.
• General Development: Understand how mechanical system designs are developed from concept through construction and how shop fabrication supports field installation efficiency.
• Safety & Engagement: Actively engage in learning opportunities, complete assigned training, and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career professional currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program related to Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural/Engineering Technology, Drafting, Design, or a related technical field.
• Experience: No specific years required; a basic understanding of construction drawings is preferred.
• Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), strong organizational and communication skills, strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to work as part of a team.
• Bonus: Interest in commercial HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical construction; exposure to CAD/BIM software is a plus.
