Firmware / Software Design Engineering Interns and Co-Ops | Advanced Energy
The Tone:
This is an internship at Advanced Energy, located in Fort Collins, CO, with opportunities across North American design sites in Colorado, Minnesota, Massachusetts, or California. What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop embedded firmware for integration into products.
• Design and implement control algorithms for various applications.
• Create software for product interfaces in both test and user environments.
• Support the development, testing, and debugging of prototype power supply units.
• Evaluate product compliance by analyzing test data and reports against specifications.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Actively pursuing an MS or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, with a GPA above 3.25. Preference given to those with an Embedded Systems and/or Controls focus.
• Experience: Working knowledge of microcontrollers, field-programmable gate arrays, hardware circuit theory, and software development tools. Demonstrated ability to debug firmware, software, or embedded systems in a lab environment.
• Skills: Programming proficiency in high-level languages such as Python, HDL, C, C++, and/or assembly in an embedded environment. Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and computer-based design and analysis tools, including MS Office Suite. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, defining priorities and meeting schedule requirements.
• Bonus: Ability to work with embedded systems and hardware, including reading schematics. Familiarity with communication protocols like Ethercat, Fieldbus, SPI, and I2C. Knowledge or experience in emerging technologies such as CyberSecurity and Machine Learning.
