Ubuntu Pro Sales Engineer | Canonical

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Canonical, available remotely globally across EMEA, Americas, and APAC time zones. Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, most notably Ubuntu, which serves as a foundational platform for breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. This role is crucial for helping global companies embrace the latest Linux and open source applications, facilitating the adoption of Ubuntu Pro, OpenStack, and Kubernetes by applying expert insights to solve real-world customer challenges during the presales cycle. You will gain unique insights into how Linux and Ubuntu are shaping innovation across diverse industries.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Location: Remote

• Team: Global Field Engineering team, working closely with enterprise sales leads.
• Mission: Enable enterprise adoption of Ubuntu Pro and related open source technologies by applying expert insights to customer problems during the presales cycle.
• Tech Stack: Linux, virtualisation, containers, networking, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, GCP, Python.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Requirements Gathering: Collect customer business requirements and advise them on Ubuntu and relevant open source applications.
• Problem Solving: Identify customer challenges with open source and articulate how Ubuntu Pro could help solve them.
• Presentations & Demos: Deliver presentations and demonstrations of Ubuntu Pro to prospective and current clients.
• Product Feedback: Liaise with product teams to provide feedback on requirements and influence the product roadmap.
• Sales Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the sales team to achieve common targets.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative chosen path, with a consistent track record of academic excellence. This role suits individuals with a strong technical foundation who are business-minded and driven by commercial success.
• Experience: Practical knowledge and hands-on experience with Linux environments (Debian or Ubuntu preferred), virtualisation technologies, containerization, and networking fundamentals. Demonstrated understanding of core cloud computing concepts and experience with leading platforms such as Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Skills: Intermediate level Python programming skills. Exceptional professional written and spoken English, coupled with excellent presentation abilities for delivering compelling demonstrations and advice. Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability are essential for effective collaboration.
