Communications Intern | Seattle Today

The Tone:
This is an internship at Seattle Today, located in Seattle, WA (Hybrid). Seattle Today is a startup local newspaper and media platform dedicated to sharing stories that define our vibrant city. The company integrates comprehensive reporting, multimedia, and authentic community voices to illuminate critical issues, people, and cultures. This role is crucial for producing engaging multimedia content, supporting storytelling across digital platforms, and significantly contributing to the expansion of Seattle Today’s presence.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Content Creation: Capture and produce engaging social media content, including videos, stories, and graphics aligned with the company’s mission.
• Video Production: Shoot high-quality short-form video content specifically for platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, and Facebook.
• Content Management: Write engaging captions, assist with visual editing, and contribute to the effective management of content calendars.
• Story Preparation: Assist with various aspects of video editing, photography, and the comprehensive preparation of stories for publication.
• Community Engagement: Engage thoughtfully with audiences through comments and messages, and support interaction with local businesses and community members.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must not be currently enrolled in school and available to commit fully to the established internship schedule. Possess a strong alignment with Seattle Today’s mission to tell authentic, impactful local stories.
• Experience: Demonstrated familiarity with popular social media platforms, particularly Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Proven experience filming and editing engaging short-form video content.
• Skills: Basic proficiency with essential editing tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or Canva. Exceptional writing, communication, and visual storytelling skills. Comfortable appearing on camera and engaging confidently with the public.
• Bonus: Prior experience creating compelling digital content for media, journalism, marketing, or nonprofit organizations. A solid understanding of strategies to grow social media engagement and expand audience reach.
