Job Description

Photolithography/Thin Film Coating Manufacturing Engineer | Lockheed Martin Corporation

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Lockheed Martin Corporation, located in Orlando, FL. Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Control business unit needs an experienced professional to join its Optical Components Center (OCC) team. This team is crucial for designing, developing, and supporting the production life-cycle of electromagnetic grids and thin film coatings for various optical systems. The engineer in this role will maintain and enhance manufacturing processes, with a strong emphasis on photolithography and/or thin film coatings, contributing to small-scale challenges that deliver significant impact to customers.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Full-Time (4×10 hour day, 3 days off per week)
• Location: In-person, Orlando, FL

• Team: Optical Components Center (OCC) team within Missiles and Fire Control
• Mission: Enhance and maintain manufacturing processes for electromagnetic grids and thin film coatings, focusing on photolithography and/or thin film coatings.
• Tech Stack: Python, Matlab, Excel VBA, Microsoft Office software

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manufacturing Support: Support manufacturing processes of optics, with a primary focus on photolithography and/or thin film coatings.
• Coating Design: Design and develop optical coatings intended for deposition on lenses and windows.
• Process Optimization: Define equipment parameters and establish maintenance items for sustained equipment performance.
• Quality Assurance: Perform thorough characterization of deposited coatings and conduct detailed data analysis.
• Issue Resolution: Investigate defective hardware to determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future defects.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Experienced professional with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
• Experience: Practical skills, experience, or relevant coursework in one or more of the following areas: thin film, coatings, photolithography, or optics. Basic training or experience in at least one programming language for data analysis is also required.
• Skills: Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python, Matlab, or Excel VBA. Strong competency with Microsoft Office software is essential. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and possess the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance to be considered for this position.
• Bonus: Breadth of skills or coursework across multiple manufacturing engineering disciplines is beneficial, including experience with writing or reviewing work instructions, data analytics, automation, mechanical design of equipment, maintaining product lifecycle, or working in a clean room environment. For thin film specialization, experience in design, manufacturing (e.g., physical vapor deposition, ion beam sputtering, chemical vapor deposition), and metrology of optical thin film coatings is desired. For photolithography specialization, experience with semiconductor fabrication processes (e.g., wafer preparation, coating, exposure, development, etching) and photolithography equipment (e.g., steppers, scanners, track systems) is a plus. General desired skills include knowledge of process control techniques (SPC, control charts, yield enhancement), strong time management, ability to work independently, and effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and production support.
