Software Development Intern | Matson
The Tone:
This is an internship at Matson, a leading ocean shipping and logistics provider with a history dating back to 1882. Matson serves as the supply chain lifeline for Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, and the South Pacific, also operating top ocean shipping services between Asia and the U.S. West Coast. In this role, you will contribute to building and improving software applications that support Matson’s business systems, gaining hands-on experience in how enterprise software is designed, tested, and delivered. The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Team: Matson Technology Team; reports to a manager and day-to-day mentor.
• Mission: To assist with building and improving software applications and learn how enterprise software is designed, tested, and delivered.
• Tech Stack: Java, C#, Python, JavaScript.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Assist: Assist with designing, developing, testing, and delivering software features.
• Code: Write code and participate in code reviews with guidance from senior engineers.
• Troubleshoot: Help troubleshoot and resolve application defects.
• Collaborate: Participate in team meetings and design discussions.
• Research: Support proof-of-concept work and document findings.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in software engineering, computer science, or information technology.
• Experience: Must have completed at least one academic term prior to the internship start and be authorized to work in the United States.
• Skills: Familiarity with at least one programming language, such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript.
• Bonus: Experience with basic testing, debugging, or version control; interest in learning enterprise software practices; or use of AI coding assistants in coding and software development.
