Semiconductor Engineering Intern | Intel
The Tone:
This is an on-site internship at Intel, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Intel Foundry strives to make every facet of semiconductor manufacturing state-of-the-art, delivering cutting-edge silicon process and packaging technology leadership for the AI era. This role provides hands-on learning opportunities, allowing you to contribute to real engineering projects, collaborate with experienced teams, and explore potential career paths within Intel’s worldwide factory network, which designs, develops, manufactures, and assembly/test packages compute devices.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process Development: Contribute to module process development efforts, including defining process-integration flows and configuring equipment for manufacturing modules.
• Yield Enhancement: Support yield-improvement initiatives by meticulously analyzing defect data, conducting targeted experiments, and assisting with risk assessments.
• Metrology Optimization: Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize metrology strategies and troubleshoot complex process-flow issues that arise in manufacturing.
• Continuous Improvement: Participate actively in continuous-improvement efforts specifically within high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Skill Development: Develop crucial technical and professional skills through hands-on experience and direct project work, supporting Intel’s overarching business goals in a collaborative setting.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This role requires a candidate pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Optoelectronics, Optics, Physics, Materials Science, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field.
• Experience: Candidates must possess at least 3 months of experience in manufacturing or semiconductor environments, which can be demonstrated through coursework, laboratory work, internships, or engineering projects. Hands-on experience in semiconductor engineering, manufacturing, or development is particularly valued.
• Skills: Core skills include contributing to module process development, analyzing defect data, designing and conducting experiments for yield improvement, optimizing metrology strategies, and troubleshooting process-flow issues within high-volume manufacturing.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include insight into substrate manufacturing, a strong interest and experience in programming, particularly Python, and direct experience in photonics, optoelectronics, optical transceiver components, or semiconductor/device physics. An acumen for failure analysis techniques is also highly advantageous.
