The Tone:
This is an immediate, full-time role at a Boutique Litigation firm, seeking a highly organized Accounting Clerk to join its head office team in California. The firm is dedicated to specialized litigation services, and this position is fundamental to maintaining its financial integrity and operational efficiency. The Accounting Clerk will be instrumental in ensuring all financial transactions, particularly client billing and trust account management, adhere strictly to regulatory standards and ethical guidelines. This role supports the firm’s overall financial health, allowing for informed strategic and operational decision-making.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Billing & Invoicing: Take responsibility for the complete billing process, which includes preparing, meticulously reviewing, and accurately sending out client invoices. This also involves diligently tracking all billable hours and disbursements to guarantee that all client billing is timely and precise according to firm policies.
• Trust Accounting: Manage and maintain all client trust accounts with unwavering attention to detail. This responsibility requires strict compliance with all State Bar of California regulations and ethical guidelines to uphold the highest standards of financial integrity for the firm and its clients.
• Financial Transactions: Efficiently process a variety of financial transactions, specifically handling all vendor payments and managing check requests. Concurrently, accurately record all incoming client payments for both accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring proper allocation and entry into the financial system.
• Data & Reconciliations: Post all financial transactions to the appropriate ledgers utilizing specialized legal accounting software, thereby ensuring utmost data integrity and accuracy. Additionally, perform regular bank reconciliations for all firm accounts and manage inter-account transfers to maintain absolute financial clarity across all banking activities.
• Financial Reporting: Provide crucial assistance with the meticulous preparation of essential financial documents. This includes helping to compile income statements, balance sheets, and other vital financial reports, which are used to contribute to informed strategic and operational decision-making within the firm.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Foundational understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principles, accounts payable/receivable processes, and general ledger reconciliation techniques.
• Experience: 1–3+ years of progressive bookkeeping or accounting experience.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with legal-specific accounting software (e.g., Clio, Tabs3, Aderant) and advanced skills in MS Excel for data analysis and reporting.
• Bonus: Strong preference for candidates who have worked in a law firm or professional services environment.
