TDOC 2026 Rehabilitative Services Internship | Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC)

The Tone:
This is an internship at Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC), located in Nashville, TN. The Tennessee Department of Correction is a multi-faceted agency responsible for operating safe and secure prisons and providing effective community supervision to ensure public safety. This role helps prepare incarcerated individuals for successful reentry into the community by supporting education, reentry planning, and structured rehabilitative programming. The intern contributes to reducing recidivism and promoting long-term success for individuals rejoining society.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Education Support: Assist with the full process of preparing offenders to obtain high school equivalency diplomas or postsecondary credentials.
• Reentry Preparation: Support individualized reentry plans, help offenders secure essential documents, and learn strategies for housing and employment support.
• Resource Connection: Participate in facility-based resource fairs that connect offenders and participants with community services.
• Program Observation: Receive structured instruction in Day Reporting Center (DRC) operations by shadowing staff and observing offender intake and counseling sessions.
• Program Support: Aid in supporting group programming and assisting with outreach efforts within community settings.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career individual currently enrolled as a Junior or greater in a bachelor’s program in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a related human services field.
• Experience: Must be undertaking the internship for academic credit.
• Skills: Strong communication and active listening abilities, coupled with basic computer proficiency and comfort in managing electronic and paper documentation.
