What We Look For In a PE – Civil – Structural Tutor

• Advanced Test Mastery:
  • Deep knowledge of PE Civil Structural examination content, including structural analysis, steel design, concrete design, wood design, masonry, seismic design, and structural engineering codes (e.g., ACI 318, AISC 360, ASCE 7).
  • Ability to clearly explain load combinations, member design, and connection detailing.
  • Expertise in preparing civil engineers for the structural depth portion of the PE Civil examination.
• Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving:
  • Skilled at teaching structural member design, load analysis, and efficient navigation of code references for the PE Civil Structural examination.
  • Ability to guide students through designing beams, columns, and connections in steel and concrete, calculating lateral forces, and applying building code provisions.
  • Emphasis on efficient use of design manuals and reference codes under timed examination conditions, connecting theoretical knowledge to practical structural design.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction:
  • Familiarity with the PE Civil Structural depth examination and common challenges, such as navigating multiple design codes simultaneously, performing seismic analysis calculations, and managing time across complex design problems.
  • Ability to adapt instruction using NCEES practice examinations, code reference exercises, and structural design problems to support PE candidates.
• Effective Teaching Methods:
  • Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with.
  • Proficiency in explaining material using multiple approaches and adapting instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
