2026 Machine Learning Internship – Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) | Serco

The Tone:
This is a summer internship at Serco, located in the U.S. The Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) at Serco develops machine learning technologies to address customer challenges and contribute to company growth. This role is crucial for contributing to cutting-edge AI/ML solutions designed to solve the nation’s most complex problems for the U.S. military. The team’s focus includes augmenting or replacing human tasks and workflows through AI/ML technologies.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Summer internship, up to 40 hours per week
• Location: U.S.

• Team: AI/ML Research and Development Team, a small team (2-5 members), guided by a Principal Research Scientist and other technical leads.
• Mission: Develop innovative machine learning technologies to address customer challenges and contribute to company growth, specifically for the U.S. military.
• Tech Stack: Python, Java

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Management: Lead a summer project significant to ongoing contracts with the U.S. military, appropriately scoped for an intern.
• Solution Development: Collaborate with AI/ML team members to frame problems, design solutions, develop code, and test its effectiveness.
• Software Delivery: Package and deliver software for the target environment using standard DevOps principles.
• Client Engagement: Collaborate with co-workers, leadership, and clients to understand problems, identify solutions, and demonstrate software.
• Technical Documentation: Write technical software documentation and explain software design and implementation to co-workers, clients, and partners.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline from an accredited university. Ideal candidates are rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
• Experience: A High School Diploma/GED. A working knowledge of Python and/or Java.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication. A strong team player who can effectively contribute to project development.
• Bonus: Experience with, or coursework in, Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Self-motivation with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
