Mid-Engineering Technician | Serco Inc.
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Serco Inc., offering the flexibility to live anywhere in the United States while requiring international travel. Serco supports the US Naval Information Warfare Center by modernizing IT systems at Department of Defense facilities worldwide, specifically managing their Electronic Security Systems contract. As a Mid-Engineering Technician, you will be a vital member of a team that installs crucial IT infrastructure, contributing directly to global defense capabilities. You will work closely with customers and other Serco teams to deliver high-quality systems.

• Tech Stack: Server equipment racks, IP-based video surveillance cameras, desktop computing systems, peripherals, CAT 6 cabling, T568B standard, rack-mounted equipment, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Access Control Systems (ACS), Closed Circuit Television Systems (CCTV), video Briefing Display Systems (BDS), Digital Multi-meter, power meters, Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Outlook), low voltage control systems, power supplies, wall transformers, circuit breakers, hand tools, power tools (drill, Sawzall, Rotozip saw, Dremel).
What You’ll Actually Do
• Installation: Install crucial IT infrastructure across U.S. Army Installations globally, including server equipment racks, IP-based video surveillance cameras, and desktop computing systems.
• Execution: Execute standardized assignments following established work methods for recurring tasks, receiving explicit instructions for unfamiliar assignments.
• Testing: Conduct various tests using established methods, operating and adjusting equipment, recording test data, and identifying deviations.
• Data Management: Gather, maintain, and process engineering data from various prescribed sources, performing computations and plotting data.
• Cabling: Perform the installation and T568B termination of CAT 6 cabling solutions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Mid Career, High School Diploma/GED, U.S. Citizenship, ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance, ability to obtain a CAC, and access to all military installations.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of related experience. Willingness to travel up to 90% of the time internationally for durations up to 4 months, and availability for flexible working hours including more than 40 hours per week or after normal duty hours.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication; ability to work independently, meet schedules, and fulfill duty requirements; organizational skills to coordinate, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks; ability to follow specific instructions for assembling, testing, and repairing equipment; familiarity with typical hand tools and power tools; ability to lift up to 50lbs without assistance and carry/push/pull up to 40lbs while standing, crouching, or walking; ability to perform physical work in varied conditions including drafts, noise, temperature variation, high heat spaces, climbing stairs/ladders, kneeling, and on ladders/lifts.
• Bonus: Active DoD Secret security clearance, current US passport, fast learner, general or advanced troubleshooting experience, experience using Digital Multi-meter and power meters, general knowledge to mount hardware on varying surfaces, familiarity with wire/cable termination including RJ45 connectors, general knowledge of Microsoft software, basic knowledge of Intrusion Detection Systems, Access Control, CCTV, and Audio Video Installation, experience in cable installation, testing, and termination (Cat 5/6, Multi conductor), fundamental understanding of server installation and use case, familiarity with installation of rack hardware and cabling techniques, general knowledge of low voltage control systems, familiarity with system support components.
