Machine Learning Intern | Serco Inc. (Serco)
The Tone:
This is an internship at Serco Inc., located in the U.S. Serco’s Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) builds machine learning technologies to solve challenges for customers and contribute to company growth. This role is important because interns will work within a dedicated AI/ML Research and Development Team, developing cutting-edge machine learning solutions to address complex problems for the U.S. military. As an intern, you will be an integral part of a small team delivering these advanced systems and contributing to vital research and development efforts.

• Team: AI/ML Research and Development Team within the Advanced Technologies Group (ATG), working in a small team of 2-5 members. Interns will be guided by the Principal Research Scientist and other technical leads.
• Mission: Develop and deliver innovative machine learning technologies to address some of the nation’s most challenging problems for the U.S. military.
• Tech Stack: Python, Java
What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Work: Be assigned a significant project for ongoing contracts with the U.S. military, appropriately scoped for a summer intern, which may be a group project.
• Development Cycle: Work with members of the AI/ML team to frame the problem, design the solution, develop the code to implement it (likely in Python and/or Java), and test and evaluate its effectiveness.
• Deployment: Package and deliver software for the target environment using standard DevOps principles.
• Client Engagement: Collaborate with co-workers, leadership, and clients to understand client problems, identify solutions, and demonstrate software solutions.
• Documentation & Explanation: Write technical software documentation and clearly explain your software design and implementation to co-workers, clients, and partners.
The Must-Haves
• Background: High School Diploma/GED. Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline from an accredited university. Ideal candidates are rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
• Experience: A working knowledge of Python and/or Java.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Be a strong team player who can effectively contribute to project development. This position is contingent upon your ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
• Bonus: Experience with, or coursework in, Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence. Self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
