About The Role

We are seeking a motivated individual for a Summer GIS Internship position. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on technical experience from one of the Midwest’s premier GIS-services providers. As an intern, you will acquire practical skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial data analysis. You will collaborate closely with our experienced GIS team, supporting the design, development, and maintenance of various GIS-based applications and tools. This role offers invaluable exposure to the real-world application of GIS technology, contributing to the resolution of complex spatial problems and facilitating data-driven decision-making. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), seasonal/temporary position. Exact start and end dates will be discussed during the interview process with final candidates.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform GIS data cleanup and quality assurance tasks, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Conduct field inventories using GPS equipment to gather data for mapping projects.
  • Complete parcel edits and diligently maintain accurate parcel layers within GIS databases.
  • Create dynamic web mapping applications to visualize and disseminate geospatial information for various projects.
  • Perform database edits and maintain data integrity across various geospatial datasets.
  • Support public works and utility network mapping projects, contributing to essential infrastructure planning.
  • Work with address data and other spatial datasets, maintaining a high level of detail and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in GIS, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (with 2+ years completed).
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply data collection procedures and operate GPS equipment effectively.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS desktop products (e.g., ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro) and ArcGIS Online.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an aptitude for spatial reasoning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Basic knowledge of fundamental geospatial concepts.

Preferred Experience

Preference will be given to candidates possessing additional experience in any of the following areas:

  • Direct experience using ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online for various GIS tasks.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or other related languages for GIS automation or web development.
  • Experience in utility design or inspection processes.
  • Knowledge or experience in cadastral maintenance, surveying principles, remote sensing techniques, or LiDAR derivatives.
  • Prior data collection experience, especially in a professional or academic setting.

The Pay Range For This Role Is

17 – 20 USD per hour (Metamora, IL)
