Machine Learning Intern | Serco Inc.

The Tone:
This is an internship at Serco Inc., located in the U.S. Serco’s Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) builds innovative machine learning technologies to solve complex customer challenges and drive company growth. This role matters because it allows you to join a team of research scientists and software engineers dedicated to addressing some of the nation’s most difficult problems through cutting-edge AI/ML development. The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Temporary, Full-time
• Location: U.S.

• Team: AI/ML Research and Development Team within the Advanced Technologies Group (ATG); works in a small (2-5 member) team guided by a Principal Research Scientist and technical leads.
• Mission: Develop innovative machine learning technologies to address some of the U.S. military’s most challenging problems.
• Tech Stack: Python, Java

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Assignment: Be assigned a project significant to ongoing contracts with the U.S. military, appropriately scoped for a summer intern.
• Solution Design & Development: Work with the AI/ML team to frame problems, design solutions, develop code, and test and evaluate its effectiveness.
• Software Delivery: Package and deliver software for the target environment using standard DevOps principles.
• Client Collaboration: Collaborate with co-workers, leadership, and clients to understand problems, identify solutions, and demonstrate software solutions.
• Technical Documentation: Write technical software documentation and explain your software design and implementation to co-workers, clients, and partners.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline from an accredited university; ideal candidates are rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
• Experience: A working knowledge of Python and/or Java.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a strong team player who can effectively contribute to project development.
• Bonus: Experience with, or coursework in, Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence; self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
