Meat Clerk | Hy-Vee

The Tone:
This is a Non-Exempt role at Hy-Vee, located in a retail grocery store setting. The TL;DR

• Team: Reports to District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home, Meat Department Manager, Assistant Meat Department Manager, Seafood Department Manager, Assistant Seafood Department Manager, and Service Managers; may provide direction to part-time stockers under certain circumstances.
• Mission: To provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while preparing, stocking, and managing merchandise in the Meat and/or Seafood Department.
• Tech Stack: Knives, Grinders, Patty Maker, Tenderizer, Slicer, Pallet jack, Tumbler, Wrapping system, Rotisserie.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Customer Service: Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions. This includes greeting customers, assisting them with product location or retrieving items, noting suggestions, answering telephone inquiries promptly, and taking customer orders.
• Product Preparation: Perform essential tasks for preparing meat and seafood products for sale. This involves wrapping, weighing, and labeling items, finishing trims on steaks, roasts, and chops, preparing and organizing seafood for display, as well as slicing, tenderizing, and grinding various products.
• Merchandise Management: Maintain the freshness and appearance of products within the meat and seafood departments. This includes reviewing food status, stocking cases, rotating merchandise, and replenishing and organizing coolers to ensure attractive and well-stocked displays.
• Sanitation and Department Maintenance: Uphold strict sanitation procedures and ensure the work area is consistently clean and neat. This also involves timely removal of trash and adherence to company guidelines for personal hygiene and dress.
• Operational Support: Contribute to overall department operations by reporting out-of-stock products to appropriate personnel and, as directed by management, ordering replenishment merchandise. This role also supports other areas of the store as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a High School diploma or equivalent experience, along with demonstrated food safety training.
• Experience: Candidates should possess six months or less of similar or related work experience, indicating an early career stage.
• Skills: The ability to follow detailed, uninvolved written or verbal instructions, perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, count, and record. This also includes the capacity to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and orally or in writing request supplies.
