Django Developer Internship (Non-Paid)

A tech company in San Diego County is looking to bring on a Django Developer Intern for this current Semester.

Job Location: Remote
Time Zone Requirement: Candidate must be in PST or Central Time Zone

Compensation: Non-Paid Position ($0)

This is a non-paid internship. Upon completion of the internship program, interns will be evaluated for a possible paid hired role.

Job Description

As a Backend Developer Intern, you will design, build, and maintain backend services that power our product ecosystem. You’ll work closely with our frontend, product, and DevOps teams to deliver robust features, optimize system performance, and ensure reliable end-to-end functionality. This role requires hands-on experience with Python/Django, AWS, and integrating external services like Google APIs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain backend APIs and services using Python/Django
  • Build scalable solutions deployed on AWS (Lambda, EC2, S3, RDS, API Gateway, etc.)
  • Integrate third-party services including Google APIs
  • Implement robust end-to-end testing frameworks to ensure feature reliability
  • Optimize application performance, security, and scalability
  • Collaborate with frontend and product teams to plan and execute new features
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to Git-based team workflows
  • Troubleshoot production issues and support continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of backend development experience (as per main qualification list)
  • Strong proficiency in Python and Django
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing infrastructure on AWS
  • Experience working with Google APIs (Maps, OAuth, Workspace, etc.)
  • Proficiency using GitHub for version control, pull requests, and collaboration
  • Demonstrated experience writing or maintaining End-to-End tests
  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design, authentication, and data structures
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and code optimization skills

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with Docker or containerized environments
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or NoSQL databases
  • Experience with microservices or serverless architecture
