This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge robotic systems and tackle some of the toughest challenges in robotics.

As part of the Atlas program, you will be involved in various aspects of mechanical engineering, ranging from individual component design to the integration of complex robotic systems. Your work will directly impact our awe-inspiring robots, which are quickly becoming recognized leaders in automation solutions for industrial applications, warehouse logistics, and general-purpose labor.

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to design and support complex robotic systems.
  • Plan and execute verification and validation testing on both prototype and production systems.
  • Design and develop new and novel features for existing products.
  • Troubleshoot issues, perform root cause failure analysis, and design/implement corrective actions to sustain existing products.
  • Design and release parts and assemblies using Catia CAD software.
  • Develop and maintain product support documentation, including Bills of Material (BOMs) and detailed part/assembly drawings.
  • Support system design analyses, including reliability, Design for Manufacturability (DFM) / Design for Assembly (DFA), and cost-reduction initiatives.

Desired Education & Skills:

  • Current student enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Robotics Engineering.
  • Demonstrated passion for robotics and mechanical design.
  • Experience designing components and assemblies using 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA), including simulations (FEA/CFD) and generation of detailed 2D drawings.
  • Hands-on ability to independently fabricate, assemble, and troubleshoot components and systems.
  • High level of technical writing proficiency (e.g., specifications, test plans, reports, white papers).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with Python, LabView, MATLAB, or similar data analysis/control tools.
  • Exposure to a range of manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, castings, extrusions, sheet metal, weldments, and compression molding.
  • Familiarity with ASME drafting standards, including GD&T (Y14.5-2018).
  • Experience working with dynamic systems incorporating sensors, actuators, and mechanisms.
  • Demonstrated internship or other experience designing and developing mechanical parts and and assemblies for product applications (consumer, industrial, medical).

Additional Information:

  • Public transportation is accessible from Boston/Alewife.
  • Boston Dynamics will never ask you to divulge your personal financial or account information as part of its recruiting process.
  • The hourly pay range for this position is between $30-$45/hour.
