About Our Program:
The Banner Health New Nurse Experience Program is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse at Banner Health. This program provides a collaborative learning environment in which you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and develop new personal and professional relationships.
Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators. We offer all our new grads multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to achieve your long-term career goals. Whether you are wanting to go into a specialty unit, leadership roles, non-bedside nursing opportunities, or any other sector of nursing – we will help you get there!
The expectation is that you will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to get a full and comprehensive training experience! New grads will also need to live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into.
Most new nurses will work three 12-hour shifts, which will include weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members. Shift timings are typically Day shift 7:00am-7:30pm and Night shift 7:00pm-7:30am.

Unit Overview: PCU-3rd Floor
This 30-bed unit is a blend of Telemetry and Med/Surg patients. Every room within the unit is Telemetry capable and utilizes the latest technology including smartphones with Care Aware Connect as a mode of communication.
About the Role
This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under their direction. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills necessary to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assesses patient needs: Evaluates physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history, physicals, diagnostics, and laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and caregivers. Completes assessments and reassessments per policy.
- Formulates a plan of care: Develops an individualized plan, including discharge, based on assessment data, patient/family input, and the medical plan. Goals are realistic, measurable, and consider all aspects of the patient’s needs. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and revises the plan as needed.
- Implements the plan of care: Provides direct patient care, coordinates, delegates, and supervises activities of the healthcare team. Delivers care according to physician orders, nursing plan, policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements. Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision. Ensures continuity of care through accurate communication.
- Evaluates the patient’s response: Assesses patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching, evaluating progress towards goals and outcomes in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Documents care: Records assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a legible, timely manner, reflecting objective/subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient response. Notes physician orders accurately.
- Evidence-based practice & professional development: Provides care based on best evidence, and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership. Interacts and participates in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors. Promotes/supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
- Contributes to society and quality: Engages in activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, which may include participating in professional organizations.
- In some roles, this position may supervise staff and work flow of the department.
- Interacts with diverse groups: Communicates with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts. Interacts with other healthcare providers in numerous settings to report and clarify information. Also works with clergy to provide spiritual support. Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.
Qualifications
Requirements to Apply Online (for New Graduates):
- Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before a start date
- No more than 12 months of RN experience
Preferred Criteria (for New Graduates):
- Candidates with an active RN license
- Previous clinical healthcare experience
- BSN is preferred – open to ADN at select locations
General Minimum Qualifications for Registered Nurses (RN):
- Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
- BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
- Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job.
- Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations.
- Note: Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months. Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year experience as an RN in a physician practice or acute care setting.
- Home Health specific: Must be able to operate personal vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license, and maintain active auto insurance coverage.
- Behavioral Health/Specific Facilities: Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, Banner Home Care/Hospice, Boswell Skilled Nursing Facility, Banner MD Anderson (Phoenix campus), Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit, or any Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health role in Arizona must possess a relevant State Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
Preferred Qualifications for Registered Nurses (RN):
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Professional certification preferred.
- Additional Related Education And/or Experience Preferred.

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position. Enjoy a flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential, when applicable.
