Machine Learning Intern | Serco Inc.

The Tone:
This is an internship at Serco Inc., with opportunities available in various U.S. locations during Summer 2026. Serco’s Advanced Technologies Group develops machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions for challenging problems, primarily supporting the U.S. military. This role is crucial for advancing capabilities in areas like natural language processing, computer vision, and operational AI, directly contributing to customer success and company growth.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Seasonal (Summer 2026), up to 40 hours/week
• Location: Various U.S. locations

• Team: Advanced Technologies Group (ATG)’s AI/ML Research and Development Team, working in small (2-5 member) teams guided by a Principal Research Scientist and other technical leads.
• Mission: To develop and deliver innovative machine learning technologies that address the U.S. military’s most challenging problems.
• Tech Stack: Python, Java, DevOps principles, agile software development processes

What You’ll Actually Do
• Execute: Be assigned and complete a project significant to ongoing U.S. military contracts, appropriately scoped for a summer internship.
• Develop: Collaborate with AI/ML team members to frame problems, design solutions, develop code (likely in Python and/or Java), and evaluate software effectiveness.
• Deploy: Package and deliver software for target environments using standard DevOps principles.
• Collaborate: Work with co-workers, leadership, and clients to understand problems, identify solutions, and demonstrate software.
• Document: Participate in agile software development processes and write technical documentation explaining software design and implementation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline from an accredited university; ideal candidates are rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
• Experience: Working knowledge of Python and/or Java.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, strong team player who can effectively contribute to project development.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
• Bonus: Experience with, or course work in, Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence; self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
