About the Role: Analyst, Byproduct Innovation
We are seeking an Analyst, Byproduct Innovation to join our Sustainability team. This pivotal role supports the development of new revenue streams across The Wonderful Company by converting agricultural byproducts into valuable products such as food ingredients, animal nutrition, biomaterials, and other high-value applications. The position sits at the intersection of commercialization, engineering, operations, and sustainability, advancing initiatives that drive both economic and environmental value.
The ideal candidate will leverage strong analytical skills and business acumen to support early-stage innovation projects.
This position will be based at our West Los Angeles, CA office. We operate on a hybrid schedule, requiring in-office presence Monday-Wednesday, with the option to work remotely on Thursday and Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate new business opportunities for agricultural byproducts through comprehensive market research, competitive analysis, and financial modeling.
- Analyze industry trends across food, feed, ingredients, and sustainability markets to identify growth opportunities and translate ambiguity into clear commercialization pathways.
- Develop robust business cases (including EBITDA, CAPEX, pricing, and ROI) to inform investment strategies and critical build vs. partner vs. outsource decisions.
- Support the development and launch of new food and feed ingredient platforms, guiding projects from initial concept through to go-to-market execution.
- Evaluate emerging processing technologies and identify potential strategic partnerships that align with innovation goals.
- Identify pathways to convert byproducts into higher-value applications while simultaneously reducing disposal costs.
- Build executive-ready presentations to facilitate senior leadership decision-making and project approvals.
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, R&D, finance, and commercial teams to advance projects from concept to successful implementation.
- Support innovation research initiatives focused on high-volume byproducts, including active collaboration with universities, technology partners, and potential customers.
- Track project milestones and effectively communicate progress, key insights, strategic recommendations, and essential learnings to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in product innovation, strategy, operations, consulting, or go-to-market roles; exposure to CPG, ingredients, food, agriculture, or sustainability industries is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, agriculture, environmental science, business, public policy, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel proficiency, including experience in financial modeling and P&L analysis.
- Demonstrated experience developing clear, concise, and executive-ready presentations.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across diverse cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- A structured thinker comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
- Intellectual curiosity and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required, including monthly day trips to California’s Central Valley.
Compensation
The pay range for this position is $80,000 – $90,000 annually and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills and experience.
