SAIC is actively seeking a motivated, career-oriented, and hands-on Java Backend Developer (Entry Level) with Cloud Experience to join our team in Ashburn, VA. This position offers an exciting and challenging career path within a dynamic environment.

This role requires full-time, on-site work in Ashburn, VA, for the initial year of employment. Candidates must reside within the GWA/commutable area.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the tech lead and senior developers to participate in system architecture design, development, integration testing and validation, and all aspects of the software life cycle (from requirements to design to implementation to test).
  • Work specifically on a Java back-end application involving extensive messaging and transaction processing.
  • Be hands-on in designing and developing Java code as project requirements dictate.
  • Learn and adhere to continuous integration, automated unit testing, and other AGILE practices established within the team, utilizing existing team tools.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in existing application components as part of ongoing maintenance.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
  • Java Development: 1+ years of Java J2EE/JEE design and software development experience, including designing, developing, and documenting large-scale enterprise software systems.
  • Cloud Experience: 1+ years of working with applications on Cloud, specifically utilizing serverless hosted services like AWS Lambda.
  • Database Experience:
    • Experience with NoSQL DBs (e.g., MongoDB, DocumentDB, DynamoDB).
    • Experience with SQL DBs (preferably Oracle), JDBC/JPA/Hibernate.
  • Containerization: Docker and Kubernetes experience.
  • Frameworks/Technologies:
    • Spring Boot/AWS cloud experience.
    • Web/Microservices.
    • XML/JSON.
  • Operating Systems: Unix/Linux.
  • Design Principles: Knowledge of standard design patterns.

Desired Skills and Experience (Plus Points)

  • Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Relevant Experience: Relevant course projects, internships, co-ops, or personal work showcasing backend development skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively to develop innovative solutions to software problems.
  • Work Ethic: High level of self-motivation, desire to deliver stellar solutions, and willingness to work in a distributed team environment.
  • Performance: Ability to develop and maintain components with stringent performance requirements.
  • Methodologies: Agile development experience.
  • JEE Technologies: IBM MQ, JMS, EJB, MDB, and other JEE technologies.
  • JEE Servers: JEE Server experience (e.g., Weblogic, Websphere, JBOSS).
  • Testing: Demonstrated ability to incorporate Unit testing as part of development activities.
  • CI/CD Tools: Experience with Gitlab/JIRA/Jenkins for CI/CD.

Customer Requirements

  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and hold a Public Trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP Background Investigation.
  • Location: This position requires on-site work in Ashburn, VA, 5 days per week for the first year of employment. All candidates must be within the GWA/commutable area.
