Utility Locator (Field Technician) – Entry Level

Starting pay: $20.00 per hour!

Stake Center Locating is seeking motivated, entry-level Locate Technicians to join our team. This role is crucial for promoting damage prevention in your community by accurately locating underground utilities, troubleshooting issues, and marking the ground with paint and flags.

We provide 100% paid, on-the-job training to equip you with all the necessary skills for success. What we’re looking for in you is a preference for working outdoors in all weather conditions, a desire to work independently, and an ability to solve problems quickly and accurately.

Key Responsibilities (Training Provided)

As an entry-level Locating Technician, you will be trained to:

  • Prioritize Safety: Always think Safety First!
  • Utilize Technology: Use a laptop computer to receive, document, and process tickets and email.
  • Interpret Information: Read maps, interpret blueprints, and determine the most effective method and sequence for locating utilities.
  • Operate Equipment: Accurately locate underground utilities using provided locate equipment and technology.
  • Communicate Effectively: Engage in clear communication with peers, managers, and homeowners.

Qualifications

  • Age Requirement: Eighteen years of age or older.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Driving: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Ability to walk up to 5 miles a day, 2-3 times a week.
    • Ability to carry up to 5 lbs of electronic locating equipment for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs, or in excess of 75 lbs with tool aids.
  • Screening: Must pass pre-employment background and drug screening.

Schedule

  • Flexibility Required: Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include some evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays, depending on ticket/production load.
  • On-Call Duty: Employees will respond to emergency calls during scheduled on-call shift rotations.
