Designer Internship Opportunity

Job Summary
This internship position involves utilizing computer-aided drafting (CAD) to create and update 3D inventory parts, assemblies, and drawings, alongside producing 2D AutoCAD Electrical drawings. Through these practical experiences, interns will build a strong foundation for their future careers in design and engineering fields.
Internship Details
By applying for this posting, you are expressing interest in our designer internships. Positions are located in either New Albany, Ohio OR Corpus Christi, TX. Please note that these are onsite positions, five days a week.
Essential Job Functions
- Create, revise, and maintain engineering and record drawings and sketches.
- Support the creation, revision, and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents, including but not limited to construction, equipment, property documents, and records.
- Obtain necessary information from various sources such as verbal communication, sketches, marked drawings, listings, field notes, vendors’ catalogs, technical reference manuals, and site visits.
- Perform mathematical calculations required to complete assigned work.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computer-aided design software, specifically Autodesk products including AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor, and Vault.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software.
- Read vendors’ prints, shop and other drawings, and equipment operating instructions, incorporating that information into ongoing work.
- Adhere to ethical behavior standards as outlined in AEP corporate policies.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Must have completed at least one year working toward an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in drafting and computer-aided design (CAD) or in civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology or design, or possess relevant equivalent experience and/or education.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Graduation date must be December 2026 or later.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.
What You’ll Get at AEP
Intern Student Engineer Compensation:
- Pay is commensurate with education hours.
- Minimum: $20.00/HR
- Mid-Point: $22.00/HR

Other Requirements
The physical demand level for this position is Sedentary. Candidates must be familiar with conventional drafting symbols and drafting methods and possess the ability to distinguish colors.
Physical Demand Level – S (Sedentary Work):
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
