Position Description: Internship Program
The primary goals for interns at Hensel Phelps are to gain a comprehensive understanding of the construction process and to provide essential assistance to both Field Engineers and Office Engineers in field and materials management. This internship program offers a valuable extended opportunity for both the intern and Hensel Phelps to evaluate the potential for a long and successful career within the company after graduation.
Position Qualifications
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel-based templates), Prolog, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite.
- Candidates are preferred to be pursuing a 4-year degree in one of the following fields:
- Civil Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Architecture
- Construction Management
Essential Duties
As an intern, you will contribute to various critical aspects of construction projects, including:
- Subcontractor Management
- Submittal review skills
- RFI (Request for Information) development
- Layout / Surveying activities
- Preparation of Daily Reports
- Quality control measures
- Support and adherence to the company’s safety plan
Physical Work Classification & Demands
Moderate Work: This role requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The individual in this position will periodically engage in the following actions, with frequency varying by workflow and office activity:
- Walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type.
- Walking: Occasional movement within the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, boxes, cabinets, etc.
- Operation: Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, phone, and computer printer.
- Communication: Frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders on various topics related to office administration.
- Cognitive Demands: Constantly computes, analyzes, and conceptualizes mathematical calculations and formulas.
- Sitting: Regularly sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen.
- Reading: Constantly reads written communications and views mail submissions. Will also need to read blueprints and take/verify field measurements.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps at various heights.
- Balancing: Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling and to walk, stand, or crouch.
- Stooping: Bending the body downward and forward by the spine at the waist.
- Visual Acuity: Required for operating a vehicle as certified and appropriate.
Environmental Exposures:
- Occasionally exposed to high and low temperatures.
- Frequently exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
