Math PhDs for AI Research Support (Flexible Contract)

Handshake AI is actively seeking highly qualified Math PhDs to contribute to cutting-edge AI research through a flexible, hourly contract work arrangement. This is a unique opportunity designed for individuals with advanced mathematical training who wish to apply their expertise in a non-traditional, project-based setting, complementing existing academic or industry commitments.

About the Role

As a key contributor, you will leverage your deep mathematical knowledge to support AI development by:

  • Evaluating AI-generated content: Using your advanced mathematical training to critically assess AI outputs.
  • Providing Expert Feedback: Offering detailed insights that help AI systems better understand complex mathematical reasoning, proof construction, and technical problem-solving.
  • Designing Rigorous Questions: Crafting domain-relevant mathematical questions to challenge AI capabilities.
  • Reviewing AI Responses: Scrutinizing AI-generated solutions for accuracy, logical consistency, and mathematical rigor.
  • No prior AI or technical experience is required; your mathematical expertise is the primary qualification.

Work Arrangement & Flexibility

  • Fully Remote: Work from anywhere with an internet connection.
  • Flexible, Asynchronous Schedule: Design your work hours to fit your lifestyle and other commitments.
  • No Minimum Hour Requirement: You control your engagement; most active contributors work approximately 5–20 hours per week.
  • This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity that can be seamlessly integrated alongside research, teaching, postdoctoral work, or industry employment.
  • Placement is dependent on current project needs, with possibilities for consideration in future projects as they become available.

Qualifications

We are looking for individuals with:

  • Doctoral students and graduates (including those currently enrolled in a PhD program or in postdoctoral positions) in Mathematics or closely related fields.
  • A strong background in advanced mathematical reasoning, proof-writing, and formal logic.
