Role Overview

As a Computer Science / Data Science Intern at GTI Fabrication, you will be an integral part of our team, supporting critical initiatives across manufacturing analytics, systems integration, and reporting. This hands-on role offers a unique opportunity to apply your technical skills in a vibrant industrial setting. You will collaborate closely with our operations, engineering, and business systems teams to extract, transform, and analyze complex manufacturing data, ultimately turning raw production information into clear, actionable insights that directly impact our business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Data Visualization Tools: Support the design and development of intuitive dashboards and reports, providing critical insights into production performance, quality control, and inventory levels for various stakeholders.
  • Data Management and Analysis: Assist with the extraction, rigorous cleaning, transformation, and in-depth analysis of large datasets sourced from our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  • Process Automation: Identify opportunities to streamline and automate manual reporting processes, leveraging scripting languages (e.g., Python) and specialized tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Database Interaction: Support the creation and optimization of basic SQL queries and contribute to data modeling efforts, ensuring data integrity and accessibility for analytical purposes.
  • Contribute to System Enhancements: Actively participate in projects focused on improving and optimizing our manufacturing systems, from concept to implementation.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain clear documentation for system workflows, data definitions, and reporting methodologies, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, operations, and business teams to deeply understand their data requirements and translate them into practical analytical solutions.

Qualifications

  • Academic Pursuit: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Availability: Ability to commit to a flexible schedule of at least 20 hours per week, balancing academic commitments with professional growth.
  • Technical Proficiency: Possess a working knowledge of at least one programming language like Python (for scripting and data manipulation), SQL (for database querying), or similar languages.
  • Analytical Acumen: Demonstrated strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with an ability to interpret complex data.
  • Passion for Industry: A genuine interest in manufacturing systems, operational analytics, industrial technology, or supply chain optimization.
  • Preferred Experience (A Plus!): Prior exposure or experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms.
