About the Co-op Program

CMTA offers a robust co-op program for college students pursuing degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Architectural Engineering who are interested in engineering design for the built environment. This program provides an opportunity for students to immerse themselves for one or more semesters in the consulting engineering world. Co-ops will build industry-competitive skills in a hands-on environment, working on a team and being trained by Professional Engineers in AutoCAD and Revit. The skills learned allow co-ops to create real construction drawings for real CMTA projects.

Position Details

This is a full-time (40 hrs./week), onsite co-op position with a competitive hourly pay rate and eligibility for overtime pay.
The position is expected to start in May 2026 and continue through Summer, with dates flexible to accommodate school calendars.
CMTA hopes that hired co-op students will complete multiple rotations, with possible consideration for full-time employment upon graduation.

Job Description

This position offers a unique opportunity for hands-on training in mechanical/HVAC/Energy design. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both collaboratively within a team and independently. CMTA’s engineers will teach the co-op how to design and implement mechanical systems/infrastructure and integrate energy-efficient measures in building projects. This is an excellent chance to work on challenging and complex MEP projects and become an important part of the design team.

Job Functions: (may include but are not limited to)

Produce detailed layout and equipment details of HVAC systems
Produce one-line diagrams/schematics
Assist the design team in the process of assembling organized sets of drawings
May assist in data collection and/or field verification
Work in conjunction with designers and engineers to help develop all aspects of a project

Requirements

• Pursuing a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering, preferably a sophomore (2nd year), or junior (3rd year)
• Strong interest in Building Systems Mechanical Engineering
AutoCAD and REVIT experience preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to work both independently and with a team
• Ability to work full-time throughout the co-op term
• Ability to travel locally for job site inspections, field work, etc.
