Internship: Landscape Architect for Environmental Consulting
Location: Seattle, WA
Compensation: $23.00 / hour
What Is the Opportunity?
Anchor QEA is actively seeking a Landscape Architecture Intern to join our 2026 Internship Program. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of projects including restoration, shoreline development, park design, and public access initiatives. The intern will provide crucial support to both dedicated landscape architecture teams and broader interdisciplinary project teams.
Interns will primarily work from Anchor QEA’s Seattle office, with potential involvement in fieldwork based on specific project requirements.
The Landscape Architecture Intern will gain invaluable hands-on experience in various design tasks, including:
- Graphic production
- Plan and detail development
- Site analysis
- Site and design research
- Preparation of presentation materials
A defining feature of this internship is a defined capstone project, specifically aligned with the intern’s academic focus. This offers excellent opportunities for collaboration with a wide array of professionals, including engineers, scientists, and senior- and principal-level landscape architects. Through this comprehensive experience, interns will be exposed to the realities of professional environmental consulting and will develop a strong foundational understanding of applied landscape architecture practice.
What Are We Looking For?
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a field directly related to Landscape Architecture (e.g., urban design, landscape architecture design and planning, sustainability).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply technical information effectively.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Possession of a project management mindset to efficiently manage priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- A strong desire to work collaboratively with others to achieve shared goals.
- Ability to maintain a professional attitude while fostering an enjoyable work environment.
Preferred Qualifications (but not required):
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil3D, SketchUp, Lumion, and ArcGIS.
What Are the Responsibilities?
The Landscape Architecture Intern will complete a defined Capstone Project, with comprehensive assistance and guidance from senior landscape architects, engineers, scientists, planners, and other professionals. To facilitate the successful completion of this goal, interns may be asked to:
- Assist with core landscape architecture tasks such as site analysis, concept development, detailed plan and production, and the preparation of presentation and public outreach materials.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis related to site context, precedent projects, materials, relevant codes, and design standards.
- Assist with field visits and site documentation, which includes preparing photo logs, taking detailed field notes, and creating figures and graphics for project deliverables.
- Participate in limited field activities, which may encompass biological resource delineation and mapping, habitat assessments, or other specific field tasks.
- Complete OSHA HAZWOPER training if required for particular tasks or project sites.
- Support interdisciplinary coordination by maintaining and updating documents, calendars, schedules, and weekly status reports.
What Is the Timeline for the 2026 Internship Program?
Key Dates for Application and Selection:
- February 9 – February 20: Application submittal period.
- March 16 – March 20: Anchor QEA interviews take place nationwide.
- March 30 – April 3: Selected candidates receive official offers.
- May 19: Earliest possible start date for interns (subject to individual availability).
