Key Responsibilities:
The internship program closely mirrors a full-time Financial Representative career, offering practical, hands-on experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Learning how to prospect and network effectively to build a personal business and client base.
  • Developing and executing a comprehensive business strategy.
  • Proactively calling on potential clients and setting meetings to understand their unique financial goals.
  • Preparing personalized financial plans and offering useful, tailored recommendations.
  • Gaining exposure to proprietary financial planning software platforms.
  • Participating in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings to foster continuous growth.
  • Receiving support to obtain Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
  • Building essential life skills that will create future career opportunities in various fields.

Qualifications:
Northwestern Mutual is seeking individuals who are:

  • A full-time student (juniors and seniors are preferred).

  • Demonstrate excellent time-management skills.
  • Have a keen interest in financial literacy and planning tools.

Compensation & Incentives:
Interns benefit from a rewarding compensation structure:

  • Performance-based earnings and revenue, directly reflecting your hard work and results.
  • Learning and Development Incentives of up to $1000 per month (not inclusive of earned commissions).

Important Note:
Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representatives are classified as Independent Contractors for income tax purposes, with income based on production. They are considered “statutory employees” for Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax purposes. If approved for an intern contract, a national criminal background check is required. Approval may be withdrawn if background check results do not meet company standards.

Salary Range:
USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr.
