Engineering Intern – Summer 2026

Awetomaton is seeking exceptional students for our Summer 2026 Internship 3-month term. As an Engineering Intern, you will be mentored directly by our senior engineering talent and have the opportunity to develop solutions to near-term national security needs. You will be part of a 4-6 person Summer cohort working out of our Beavercreek, Ohio headquarters. Your work will have high visibility to both Awetomaton and Government Executives. This Summer, you will work on a 2-person team to develop and implement a core monitoring & observability package, serving as the foundation for streamlined Platform as a Service (PaaS) operational troubleshooting, resource monitoring, and forecasting.

Logistics & Eligibility

  • This is a full-time, paid position.
  • Candidates must have completed their Junior undergraduate year by Summer 2026.
  • Approximate start date: May 18, 2026.
  • US Citizenship is a strict requirement; we are unable to provide Visa sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal platform tools and services, especially those related to increasing insight into how the platform is functioning day-to-day and minute-to-minute.
  • Fuse together multiple platform-standard data sources (e.g., Prometheus, AWS) via user-friendly Grafana dashboards.
  • Evolve simple dashboards into engines for forecasting and recommendations through automated trend analyses.
  • Support automation efforts for CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure provisioning.
  • Document processes, tools, and best practices for internal teams.
  • Collaborate with multiple internal platform/DevOps teams to guide product (dashboard) development for maximum value and utility.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, with Junior year completed by Summer 2026.
  • US Citizen.
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash / Ash / Zsh).
  • Experienced with Linux systems and terminal usage.
  • Interest in DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, and automation tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with any Kubernetes distribution (e.g., OpenShift, Rancher, K3s, AWS EKS).
  • Familiarity with container services (e.g., Docker) and CI/CD (e.g., GitLab).
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Exposure to monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus).
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals.
