Your Opportunity as a Civil Engineering Intern

As an Intern, you will work as a valuable team member on both small and large Civil Engineering projects. You will operate under the direct guidance and supervision of a senior engineer or designer, gaining invaluable practical experience. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks, which may include performing calculations, preparing drawings, and conducting essential fieldwork. The projects you may be assigned to are exceptionally broad, varied, and diverse in scope, ranging from residential and commercial developments to industrial, recreational, resort, and institutional projects. This is a terrific opportunity for a college student to support a few exciting local and national projects, contributing directly to our extensive experience.

Your Key Responsibilities

Working as part of our dynamic project teams, your primary duties will include:

  • Assisting engineers in the meticulous preparation of contract documents.
  • Supporting a project team in the development of critical design documentation, plans, and reports for relevant project design elements.
  • Contributing to the collection of vital topographic data in the field.
  • Performing necessary calculations to analyze and design civil system components, utilizing both company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Engaging in design and drafting activities, participating in the review of drawings and calculations, and conducting field inspections.
  • Gaining practical exposure and hands-on experience with industry-leading software, including AutoCAD, Civil3D, HydroCAD, and MicroStation.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

To thrive in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Minimum requirements include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and some foundational exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D Design programs.
  • An enthusiastic and motivated attitude, coupled with a strong desire to learn and develop technical skills.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with professionals and also demonstrate the capacity to work independently when required.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • You must be currently enrolled in an engineering or geomatics program, actively working toward earning a bachelor’s degree (minimum).
  • Specific academic coursework or practical exposure to one or more of the following areas is highly valued: Planning, grading design, utility infrastructure, stormwater management, surveying, and construction management.

Working Conditions

This role primarily involves a typical office environment, requiring work with computers and at a desk for long periods of time. Additionally, fieldwork may be required, which could include exposure to various elements and inclement weather conditions.

Compensation and Location

  • Pay Range: $23.47 – $34.50 Hourly
  • Primary Location: United States | NY | Rochester
  • Schedule: Full time
