Job Description

About Sierra

At Sierra, we are dedicated to creating a platform that empowers businesses to build more human and effective customer experiences using AI. We operate primarily as an in-person company with our main base in San Francisco, complemented by growing offices in Atlanta, New York, London, France, Singapore, and Japan.

Our culture is founded on a core set of values: Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and Family. These values guide our actions and define our commitment to excellence in everything we do.

Sierra is led by accomplished co-founders:

  • Bret Taylor: Currently serves as Board Chair of OpenAI. His impressive background includes co-CEO of Salesforce (following the acquisition of his company, Quip), CTO of Facebook, one of Google’s earliest product managers, and co-creator of Google Maps.
  • Clay Bavor: Prior to Sierra, Clay spent 18 years at Google, where he most recently led Google Labs. He also initiated and led Google’s AR/VR effort, Project Starline, and Google Lens, and previously led product and design teams for Google Workspace.

What You’ll Do – Software Engineer, Agent Intern

Sierra is at the forefront of building the next generation of AI agents, and we are seeking enthusiastic interns to join us in this mission.

As a Software Engineer, Agent Intern, you will gain invaluable hands-on experience working directly on production AI agents for Sierra’s customers. Your contributions will span the design and development of AI agents, shipping features, and learning from real-world use cases at scale. If you are eager to contribute to and learn from the most significant technological wave in history, we invite you to build with Sierra.

What You’ll Bring

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills, particularly in fast-changing, ambiguous environments.
  • A builder and tinkerer’s mindset with high agency – you find creative ways to overcome obstacles and ship.
  • Excellent communication skills – clear, direct, and persuasive across technical and non-technical audiences.

Even Better (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience building or deploying AI/LLM systems in production.
  • Familiarity with tools that power today’s AI agents, such as eval frameworks, agent tooling, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering.
  • Prior experience with React, TypeScript, and/or Go.

Intern Qualifications

  • The intern program is open to students graduating December 2026 – June 2027.
  • Note: The full benefits listed below are available only to full-time employees. Interns are eligible for a monthly stipend for health insurance, daily lunch, and, of course, free alphorn lessons.

Our Values in Detail

  • Trust: We build trust with our customers through our accountability, empathy, quality, and responsiveness. We build trust in AI by making it more accessible, safe, and useful. We build trust with each other by showing up professionally and personally, fostering an environment where everyone can do their best work.
  • Customer Obsession: We deeply understand our customers’ business goals and relentlessly focus on driving outcomes, not just technical milestones. Everyone at the company knows and spends time with our customers. When a customer has an issue, we drop everything and fix it.
  • Craftsmanship: We get the details right, from the words on the page to the system architecture. We have good taste. When we notice something isn’t right, we take the time to fix it. We are proud of the products we produce and continuously self-reflect to self-improve.
  • Intensity: We understand we don’t have the luxury of patience. We play to win. We are committed to our product being the best, and when it isn’t, we fix it. When we fail, we discuss it openly and without blame to ensure success next time.
  • Family: We believe that balance and intensity are compatible, and we model this in our actions and processes. We strive to be the best technology company for parents. We support and respect each other, celebrating both personal and professional achievements.

What We Offer (for full-time employees)

Our benefits are designed to reflect our values and are available to full-time employees:

  • Flexible (Unlimited) Paid Time Off
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits for you and your family
  • Life Insurance and Disability Benefits
  • Retirement Plan (e.g., 401K, pension) with Sierra match
  • Parental Leave
  • Fertility and family building benefits through Carrot
  • Daily lunch, as well as delicious snacks and coffee to keep you energized
  • Discretionary Benefit Stipend, allowing flexibility to spend where it matters most
  • Free alphorn lessons

These benefits are subject to change consistent with applicable policies and plans. Eligible full-time employees can also participate in Sierra’s equity plans, subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.

Be You, With Us

We are working to bring the transformative power of AI to every organization worldwide. To achieve this, it is crucial that the diversity of our employees mirrors the diversity of our customers. We firmly believe that our work and culture are enhanced when we encourage, support, and respect the diverse skills and experiences within our team. We actively encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn’t precisely match every detail of the job description. We are committed to evaluating all applicants consistently, without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, pregnancy, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, citizenship, or any other legally protected class.
