About the Corporate Communications Team

The Corporate Communications team is at the forefront of NYPA’s external presence, responsible for all outward-facing communications. This encompasses a wide range of activities including, but not limited to, managing media events, crafting press releases, handling media inquiries, issuing media advisories, and actively influencing social media narratives.

About the Summer Developmental Internship Program

This is a paid, 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program designed to provide invaluable professional development, hands-on experience in the dynamic energy industry, exposure to executive leadership, and significant networking opportunities. This program aims to build a solid foundation for your future career.

Program Dates: June 2 – August 7, 2026

Primary Focus Area for this Internship

The primary focus for this intern will be centered around media relations, particularly pertaining to NYPA’s ongoing renewables development efforts, and enhancing community engagement initiatives. The intern will also be involved with reporting and measurement tools, as well as managing internal databases.

Key Responsibilities

As a Summer Developmental Intern in Corporate Communications, you will:

  • Participate in department-specific projects, analysis, and research methods, gaining valuable project management skills.
  • Support the team in developing business solutions that contribute to NYPA’s VISION2030 strategic goals.
  • Research industry trends and emerging technologies to contribute to the continuous improvement of our programs.
  • Undertake other projects as assigned, which will vary based on the specific focus area and ongoing needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task with competing priorities effectively.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to providing positive customer service for both internal and external stakeholders.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • Enrollment in an associate’s, undergraduate, or graduate program at an accredited college or university is required.
  • Recent graduates are not eligible for our Developmental Internship program.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the internship (June 2 – August 7, 2026).

Compensation

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The hourly rate for this position is based on the level of education at the time the intern program begins:

  • Sophomore: $17.50/hour
  • Junior: $21.50/hour
  • Senior (or May 2027 graduate): $21.50/hour
  • Current Graduate/Law Student: $24.50/hour
