Company Overview:
CMTA, a Legence Company, stands as one of the fastest-growing engineering firms in the U.S., renowned for its expertise in sustainable, high-performance building engineering. We operate as a collaborative, innovative, and energetic team, leveraging a data-driven, holistic approach to consulting engineering, performance contracting, and zero energy projects. Our focus is on fostering a workplace that provides unparalleled growth and career opportunities for engineers driven to excel. Legence (Nasdaq: LGN), our parent company, is a leading provider of engineering, consulting, installation, and maintenance services for mission-critical building systems, specializing in complex HVAC, process piping, and other mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems to enhance energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.

About the Co-op Program:
CMTA offers a robust co-op program designed for college students pursuing degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Architectural Engineering who are passionate about engineering design for the built environment. This program provides an invaluable opportunity to immerse yourself for one or more semesters in the dynamic world of consulting engineering. Co-ops will build industry-competitive skills in a hands-on environment, working within a team, and receiving training from Professional Engineers in industry-standard software like AutoCAD and Revit. The skills acquired enable our co-ops to create real construction drawings for actual CMTA projects.

Position Summary:
This full-time, onsite co-op position provides a unique opportunity for hands-on training and mentorship in mechanical, HVAC, and energy design. You will learn directly from our engineers how we design and implement mechanical systems/infrastructure and integrate energy-efficient measures into our building projects. This is an exceptional chance to contribute to some of the most challenging and complex MEP projects and become an important part of our design team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and thrive in both team-oriented and independent work environments.

Key Responsibilities (May include but are not limited to):

  • Produce detailed layouts and equipment details for HVAC systems.
  • Create one-line diagrams and schematics.
  • Assist the design team in assembling organized sets of construction drawings.
  • May assist with data collection and/or field verification activities.
  • Work collaboratively with designers and engineers to develop all aspects of a project.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • Preferably a sophomore (2nd year) or junior (3rd year) student.
  • Strong interest in Building Systems Mechanical Engineering.
  • AutoCAD and REVIT experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) in our office throughout the co-op term.
  • Ability to travel locally for job site inspections, field work, and other project-related activities.

Schedule & Compensation:
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), onsite position with a competitive hourly pay rate and eligibility for overtime pay. The position is scheduled to start in August 2026 and continue through Fall 2026. Dates are flexible to accommodate academic calendars. Our goal is for co-op students to complete multiple rotations with CMTA, with potential consideration for full-time employment upon graduation.
