Job Description Summary:

GE HealthCare is seeking PhD students actively engaged in AI/ML areas, who are passionate about developing next-generation AI technologies with a profound impact on medicine and healthcare. The role involves working with top researchers and domain experts in AI for health to develop novel deep learning solutions, including vision foundational models and large language models, and preparing research publications for leading AI venues.

GE HealthCare’s researchers have a strong publication record in top AI venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, KDD, CVPR, EMNLP, and ACL. The ambitious AI for medicine and healthcare research agenda includes, but is not limited to, the following key areas:

  • Medical imaging foundation models across diverse imaging types, diseases, and organs.
  • Multi-modal medical imaging analysis and report generation.
  • LLMs for clinical efficiencies.
  • Multimodal phenotyping for accurate disease diagnosis, subtyping, and progression modeling, as well as patient retrieval, trial matching, and health monitoring.
  • Responsible AI (e.g., interpretable models, trustworthiness, fairness, etc.).
  • Multimodal EMR generation.

As an AI Research Intern at GE HealthCare, you will engage in cutting-edge projects with access to petabytes of data, state-of-the-art computing resources, and professional support from domain experts.

Job Description – Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with large-scale datasets to design and develop novel machine learning algorithms, particularly in LLM, to automate clinical tasks using one or more of medical images, electronic medical records, waveforms, and clinical reports.
  • Demonstrate algorithms to meet accuracy requirements on a general subject population through statistical analyses and error estimation.
  • Build prototypes to enable development of high-performance AI algorithms in scalable, product-ready code.
  • Initiate and propose unique and promising deep learning capabilities, develop new and innovative algorithms and technologies, and pursue patents and research publications where appropriate.
  • Research and evaluate emerging technology, industry, and market trends to assist in product development and/or operational support activities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD or Master’s degree in computer science or related areas, or entering into a PhD program in the Fall of 2026.
  • Experience in one area of computer science (e.g., Natural Language Understanding, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization).
  • Experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C/C++, etc.).
  • In-depth experience with Spark/Hadoop and either PyTorch/TensorFlow.
  • Experience creating production environment data analytics and applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with handling noisy real-world medical and patient data.
  • Experience working with large-scale AI training.

Compensation:

  • The pay rate for this position is $45-62/hr.
