This summer, you are invited to join STR’s Video & Image Understanding (VIU) Group as an intern. The VIU Group is a vital part of STR’s Intelligence Division, committed to developing and applying state-of-the-art information processing techniques. Job Title: Summer Intern – Video & Image Understanding (VIU) Group

Key Responsibilities:

• Work as an integral part of a project team, benefiting from focused mentorship provided by experienced staff members.
• Adapt, extend, and optimize innovative machine learning algorithms, specifically deep learning or reinforcement learning techniques, to address complex computer vision or autonomy challenges.
• Collaborate closely with STR research engineers and often with academic researchers who are part of our project teams, fostering a dynamic environment for developing practical and powerful machine learning and computer vision solutions.
• Gain valuable experience in the evaluation and optimization of machine learning performance using relevant and practical real-world data sets.

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in an MS or PhD degree program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
• Possess a successful track record in applying machine learning algorithms, including deep learning or reinforcement learning, specifically to problems within computer vision or autonomous systems.
• Demonstrate a strong academic record and a genuine interest in cutting-edge research.
• Proficiency in scientific software development, particularly with Python.
• This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is a mandatory requirement by the U.S. Government.

Pay Information:

The full-time equivalent salary range is $89,000 – $112,000. This range is based on external market data. Specific offers are determined by various factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, training, key/critical skills, existing security clearances, and prevailing market and business conditions.
