Interns, regardless of their academic background, will learn to establish a financial planning practice while leveraging local and national experts, exclusive financial products, and the robust support of a Fortune 500 company. This program is designed to build confidence, expand professional networks, and empower individuals to help clients achieve financial freedom, where dedication and hard work are recognized and rewarded.

Responsibilities

This internship closely mirrors the full-time Financial Representative career path, offering a comprehensive learning experience:

  • Learn to prospect and network to develop a client base and grow your business.
  • Develop and execute a robust business strategy.
  • Initiate contact with potential clients and set meetings to understand their unique financial goals.
  • Prepare tailored financial plans and provide insightful, useful recommendations.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to proprietary planning software platforms.
  • Participate in weekly coaching, training, and professional development meetings.
  • Receive support to obtain Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
  • Cultivate essential life skills that will open doors to future career opportunities.

The program offers the option to participate year-round, enabling continuous growth and support for obtaining further registrations and certifications such as the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®. Interns are encouraged to engage in local and national recognition events, gain access to leadership programs, and collaborate with industry experts. A diverse range of resources is available to ensure personal and professional growth. Eligible students may also have the opportunity to interview for a full-time Financial Representative or Advisor role upon graduation.

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student, with a preference for juniors and seniors.
  • Demonstrate entrepreneurial ambitions and a genuine curiosity for sales.
  • Highly involved in campus life (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
  • Possess excellent time-management skills.
  • Exhibit a strong interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
  • Display business acumen and a desire to enhance critical thinking abilities.

Compensation & Benefits

The program offers a competitive compensation structure and valuable benefits:

  • Performance-based earnings and revenue.
  • Learning and Development Incentives: Up to $1000/month (not inclusive of earned commissions).

Important Note: Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representatives are Independent Contractors whose income is based on production. If offered an opportunity to apply for approval of an intern contract to become a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, a national criminal background check is required. Approval to contract will be withdrawn should the background check results provide information that would preclude employment with Northwestern Mutual.

Salary Range

USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr. (This range refers to the Learning and Development Incentives mentioned in the Compensation & Benefits section, not inclusive of earned commissions or productivity bonuses.)
