Programmer Intern

Acuity is seeking a highly motivated Programmer Intern to join our team, focusing on modifying programming systems to support critical business automation needs. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in coding, testing, debugging, and documenting programs, file layouts, and report layouts. As an intern, you will learn to rely on specifications, instructions, and established guidelines to perform job functions and provide data in appropriate formats for strategic decision-making.

Start Date: Summer 2026

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Actively learn programming languages used by Acuity through dedicated formal training and valuable on-the-job mentorship.
  • Acquire knowledge of specific systems maintained by the team, based on assigned projects.
  • Develop a strong understanding of web user interface development.
  • Learn to understand and effectively integrate with data storage to retrieve and update critical business data.
  • Write, test, and debug ETL and SQL processes to ensure the provision of accurate and timely information.
  • Gain insights into Acuity’s comprehensive enterprise data design.
  • Create or diligently update all necessary documentation affected by programming changes, including rerun or disaster recovery documentation and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with Acuity’s Strategic Analytics department.
  • Consult with internal users to accurately identify and fulfill their data needs.
  • Follow existing test plans and/or competently create appropriate test plans for the scope of programming changes.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support team objectives.
  • Adhere strictly to department standards and procedures.

EDUCATION:

  • Prefer junior or senior year college status in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Entry level. We welcome aspiring programmers eager to kickstart their career.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Fundamental knowledge of object-oriented programming languages.
  • Understanding of SQL and basic database design principles.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Capable of meticulously following very detailed instructions.

COMPENSATION:

The pay rate for this position is $23.00 per hour. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary will vary based on the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
