Role Overview:
SLR is actively seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineering Intern to join their built environment consulting team in Cheshire, CT. This position offers an invaluable opportunity for hands-on experience, supporting a diverse range of environmental, site/civil, and infrastructure projects. Working under the direct guidance of experienced engineers and environmental professionals, the intern will gain significant exposure to real-world consulting tasks, including site development, stormwater management, permitting processes, and essential field investigations. This role is considered important to achieving the company’s sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Civil Engineering Intern, your responsibilities will include:
Assisting with Site/Civil and Environmental Engineering Design: This involves supporting tasks related to grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion & sediment control measures.
Supporting Stormwater Management and Water Resources Tasks: Contributing to hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and the preparation of relevant plans.
Assisting with Document Preparation: Helping in the preparation of engineering drawings, technical memoranda, and permit applications for submission to municipal and state agencies.
Participating in Field Work and Site Inspections: Engaging in data collection, construction observations, and environmental assessments, all under direct supervision.
Collaborating on Multidisciplinary Projects: Working alongside engineers, environmental scientists, and surveyors to support various consulting projects.
Organizing Project Data: Assisting with the organization of project data and contributing to reports, calculations, and overall project documentation.

Specific details for this internship include:
Purpose: To help students gain practical work experience in their chosen field.
Duration: This is a temporary, seasonal position, expected to begin in May through August 2026.
Compensation: The hourly range for this position is $20 – $25. Final agreed-upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.
Benefits: This is a non-benefits eligible position.

Qualifications & Education:
Required:
• Currently pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrated strong interest in environmental consulting, site development, and water resources.
• Possession of a basic understanding of civil engineering principles (e.g., grading, drainage, utilities, or stormwater).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and work collaboratively in a team-oriented consulting environment.

Preferred (A Plus, Not Required):
• Experience or coursework related to stormwater management, hydrology, or land use permitting.
• Familiarity with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, or similar applications.
• Prior internship, co-op, or field experience in civil or environmental engineering.
• Knowledge of Connecticut environmental regulations or municipal permitting processes.
